Hugh "Peanuts" Whalum, a Brandt’s regular and St. Louis legend, has been playing jazz for 63 years and performed with Count Basie, Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald. Dave Koz recently signed Peanuts, who plays genius sax and piano, and has a voice like velvet. His set, backed by Kirk and several other great musicians, was so amazing that everyone in the room seemed to sigh collectively and say quietly after each song "oh, yeah" or "beautiful." Indeed, it was exquisite and heartbreakingly beautiful. That was Jimi Hendrix, except jazz."
